Charles Eames lounge chair for Herman Miller

SOLD

Model 670 Eames lounge chair for Herman Miller.

Rosewood shell with black leather cushions.

We are not sure of the exact age but Herman Miller stopped using rosewood circa 1990.

The rosewood shells are in very good original condition. It is rare to see vintage shells in such good condition, there is one small area of damage underneath one arm rest (see photo) and, as to be expected, some uniform colour fading.

The 2 back cushions are in good condition with just usual wear, no rips tears or damage.

The seat cushion has had a later high quality vinyl cover added to cover the original leather (see photo).  This has been professionally done and we only spotted this after having the chair in our possession for over a week when we removed the cushion to inspect the shell below.  It is unclear why this cover was added, we have not been able to detect any damage to the leather below but we have not completely removed the vinyl cover due to the buttons being ‘stitched through’ the original leather below.  The inside of the vinyl cover is stamped Chieftain fabrics 1996.   In our opinion it is not obvious until thorough examination that the vinyl is not the original leather and it suitably matches the back leather cushions.

The arms show some more signs of wear but no rips or cracks.

The previous owner of the chair was a smoker and the odour of smoke from the chair currently remains.
